Curriculum Intent

At The Grange, we aim to deliver a high-quality mathematics education which provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject. We aim for our children to:

  • Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics to allow them the ability to rapidly recall and apply knowledge accurately;
  • Reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, inferring relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language;
  • Solve problems by applying their mathematical knowledge and skills to a variety of problems.

Whilst these appear to be three distinct domains, through the design and structure of our Mathematics curriculum at The Grange, following the White Rose Maths scheme of learning, we encourage children to move fluently between mathematical ideas and representations and make rich connections to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. We also encourage children to apply their Mathematics knowledge to the broader curriculum.
