History and Geography
During the Summer Term we will be starting new topics. In Summer 1, we will study a Geography topic, where we will be looking at 'What are the human and physical characteristics of the seaside?' where we will look at the human and physical features of the seaside and how seaside landscapes have changed. We will also identify where seaside towns are in Britain using an atlas.
In Summer 2, we will be studying a History topic, where we will be looking at 'How has travel and transport changed?' where we will look at a wide variety of transport through the ages and why it has changed so much from the older times compared to how we live today.
Maths
In Mathematics we will be focusing on multiplication and division, fractions and data handling. You can support your child at home by listening to some of our favourite times tables songs on YouTube.
Children will also have one lesson a week solely focusing on Shape, Space and Measure. Children will also have one lesson per week focusing on understanding time and applying this in everyday life.
English
In Summer 1 we will be reading "Super Bob". We will use speaking and listening activities to develop our understanding of the story. We then aim to create our own comic using speech and thought bubbles. In Summer 2 we will be reading the story "Superworm". We will be using the book to create our own fact file of animals in the book.
Science
In Science, we will be learning about Plants and Animals including humans. We will conducting a variety of experiments, focusing on fair testing. We will also look at how to look after our bodies.
Art
In Art we will be studying the a different artist each week and focusing on how they create art using many different mediums ( collage, painting, art from nature).
PSHE
In Summer we will be focusing on Coping with Change during our PSHE lessons. We will learn about how to cope with changes in our lives as we get older.
PE
PE will take place on a Thursday. This term we will be swimming. Children need a swimming costume, towel and swimming cap.
Computing
In computing we will be developing the children's understanding of computer coding. To master coding skills, children need to have the opportunity to design and plan a program before coding. During the design process, children will clarify: the characters (objects), what they will do (actions and events)and what order things will happen (the algorithm).
Music
In Spring term children will be using the Charanga Scheme to develop their confidence in singing. We will learn the song "I want to Play in a Band".
Homework
In Class 12 children will have daily reading and spellings. Spellings will be changed on a Friday. These will be checked each morning. If children are not completing homework on a regular basis they will read/complete homework with an adult at break time.
At The Grange we believe that it is crucial to work in partnership with parents and carers. There is an expectation that you will support us by ensuring that your child completes the tasks that we set as homework.
Obviously the level of your engagement will depend on your child’s age but we expect you to take an active part in all aspects of homework and where necessary, indicate that you have monitored the completion of it (e.g. by signing the Home/ School Reading Record Book).
The routines of reading everyday, learning spellings and multiplication tables etc. can be great fun and very rewarding for all concerned. Best results are achieved when homework is not done at the last minute but has a fixed time in a child’s established home routine. Short, sharp period of activity are preferable to prolonged periods of study where concentration can be lost.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff. In addition, the children’s diaries will be checked and written in daily to inform you of any updates. Additionally please see below useful website to enhance your child's leaning at home.
