Spring Term 2025
History and Geography
During the Spring Term we will be starting new topics. In Geography we will be looking at 'Geographical differences between the United Kingdom and China' where we will learn about maps, looking at how people live differently in China and the UK and Chinese culture. In History we will be looking at 'What did activists change?' were we will look at different activists and understand the changes they made to society.
Maths
In Mathematics we will be focusing on multiplication and division. We will develop different strategies to multiply and divide numbers. You can support your child at home by listening to some of our favourite times tables songs on YouTube.
Children will also have one lesson a week solely focusing on Shape, Space and Measure. Children will also have one lesson per week focusing on understanding time and applying this in everyday life.
English
In English we will be reading "Zog". We will use speaking and listening activities to develop our understanding of the story. We then aim to create our own version of the story using descriptive language. We will further develop our skills in non-fiction writing by creating a first aid poster to help those who have been hurt.
Science
In Science, we will be learning about ‘Forces and Magnets’. We will experiment how applying different amounts of force affect how objects travel. We will also learn more about how magnets attract and repel whilst investigating north and south poles.
Art
In Art we will be focusing on the work of Hilma of Klint. We will learn more about her life and style of artwork, before creating our own using her techniques and styles.
PSHE
In Spring we will be focusing on Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds during our PSHE lessons. We will learn about what makes a person emotionally and physically healthy.
PE
PE will take place on a Wednesday. This term we will focus on passing and receiving through a variety of games.
Computing
In computing we will be developing the children's understanding of the range of tools used for digital painting. Children will then use these tools to create their own digital paintings, while gaining inspiration from a range of artists' work. The unit concludes with learners considering their preferences when painting with and without the use of digital devices.
Music
In Spring term children will be using the Charanga Scheme to develop their confidence in singing. We will learn the song "I want to Play in a Band".
Homework
In Class 12 children will have daily reading and spellings. Spellings will be changed on a Friday. These will be checked each morning. If children are not completing homework on a regular basis they will read/complete homework with an adult at break time.
At The Grange we believe that it is crucial to work in partnership with parents and carers. There is an expectation that you will support us by ensuring that your child completes the tasks that we set as homework.
Obviously the level of your engagement will depend on your child’s age but we expect you to take an active part in all aspects of homework and where necessary, indicate that you have monitored the completion of it (e.g. by signing the Home/ School Reading Record Book).
The routines of reading everyday, learning spellings and multiplication tables etc. can be great fun and very rewarding for all concerned. Best results are achieved when homework is not done at the last minute but has a fixed time in a child’s established home routine. Short, sharp period of activity are preferable to prolonged periods of study where concentration can be lost.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff. In addition, the children’s diaries will be checked and written in daily to inform you of any updates. Additionally please see below useful website to enhance your child's leaning at home.
Supporting your child at home
