We hope you had a wonderful summer and are excited for the first term of Reception!

Autum Autumn Term Learning

Our topic this half term is ‘Ourselves”. This includes family, autumn and celebrations such as Bonfire Night, Diwali and Christmas.

Maths

In Maths we will be matching and sorting objects, comparing amounts, size, mass and capacity. We also be exploring simple AB patterns.

Phonics

Phonics lessons will begin on Monday 15th September. We will be teaching the sounds m, a, s, d, t, i, n, p and g.

Literacy

This half term the children will be learning to hear, say and identify initial sounds in words, recognise the tricky red words I and the, recognise their name and work towards writing their name independently.

Communication & Language

Children will be learning to listen carefully to a story, retell a familiar story, ask questions and use vocabulary linked to our topic.

Physical Development

PE lessons will begin after the October half-term and take place each Monday. Our first lesson will be Monday 3rd November. Children will be practising the skills of hopping, skipping and jumping. They will learn to put on and zip/button up their own coat, develop the correct pencil grip and correctly form the letters m, a, s, & d.

Understanding the World

We will be learning how the past is anything before the current day, that the green on a globe is land and the blue is sea and jow it shows different countries around the world. We will also be looking at how we can identify typical weather in Autumn, identify and name the 5 senses and know that this time of year is Autumn.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We will be encouraging children to see themselves as unique by sharing their hobbies and interests. They will learn how to identify their feelings, using books to support understanding. Children will also know, talk about and follow the class rules:

  • Listening ears
  • Looking eyes
