Welcome back! We hope you all have a lovely half-term and are looking forward to the summer!
Summer 2 Term Learning
Our topic this half term is 'Summer'. This includes Mixed Up Traditional Tales, Art & Design Technology, Toys, Summer, Pirates, When I Grow Up and Transition to KS1.
Maths
In Maths we will be learning to double within 10, share amounts equally, identify even and odd numbers, recall number bonds to 5 and solve subtraction problems.
Phonics
Phonics lessons begin on Tuesday 3rd June. Children will continue to review all single set 1 sounds including special friends: sh, th, ch, qu, ng and nk. We will also be teaching set 2 sounds, beginning with the sounds ay, ee, igh, ow and oo.
Literacy
This half term the children will be blending words with set 1 and set 2 sounds, reading and writing simple sentences independently and learning to read the red words my, by and of.
Communication & Language
Children will be learning and retelling a variety of traditional tales.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Children will be exploring how to overcome challenges and resolve a problem by talking it through with a trusted friend or adult. We will also be discussing what it means to be a safe pedestrian and why this is so important.
Physical Development
PE lessons will now take place each Monday afternoon. Our first lesson will be Monday 9th June and children are to come to school wearing their PE kit. The children will be practising how to run a race and complete an obstacle course. They will be fine tuning their scissor skills using two-hole scissors to cut along lines and also learning to correctly form the red tricky words I and the.
Understanding the World
We will be learning all about David Attenborough and why he is important. We will be looking at seaside holiday pictures from past and present and discussing similarities and differences, identifying similarities and differences between life in our town and life in Africa and exploring the typical weather of an English summer. Children will also be experimenting with melting and solidifying substances such as chocolate and butter.
