Spring 1 Term Learning

Our topic this half term is 'All Around the World'. This includes Winter, Chinese New Year, Warm & Cold Habitats and Rhyming.

Maths

In Maths we will be learning to represent, compare and compose numbers to 8, identify zero, understand that zero means no quantity, compare mass & capacity and make pairs.

Phonics

Phonics lessons begin on the first day back.  Children will be reviewing all single set 1 sounds and learning to read sh, th, ch, qu, ng and nk. The children know these as special friends!

Literacy

This half term the children will be learning to recognise and read the red tricky words no, to and go. We will also be preparing children to blend known sounds into words and begin to write cvc words such as mat, dog, web etc.

Communication & Language

Children will be taught vocabulary linked to our topic of 'All Around the World', they will learn to retell the story Handa's Surprise and talk about key events in the story.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Children will be learning to make the right choice and the natural consequences of not doing so (i.e. if we jump in puddles then our socks and shoes will get wet), how healthy eating affects our health and well-being and why regular teeth brushing is important to stay healthy.

Physical Development

Children will be supported to learn how to use a knife & fork, get changed for PE independently, correctly form the letters c, k, u, b, f, e and roll, kick and pass different sized balls.

Understanding the World

We will be looking at images of transport from the past and identifying similarities and differences, exploring aerial maps of our school and identifying key features, learning that we do not have certain animals in England and compare with other climates such as Africa, explore floating and sinking, understand what material a magnet picks up, talk about places that are special to us and use a mouse to move a cursor.
